In the context of Africa, a collapsing of borders, artificial or real, into one seamless geographic mass of peoples, that is currently being pursued with the advent of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), gives further impetus to the need to get Nigeria, the other ECOWAS Member States, and the African continent bloc to take a closer look at the logistical arrangements that will make this lofty goal a reality.
West Atlantic Cold-Chain and Commodities Ltd., has designed the Cold Value Chain & Warehousing Week (CCW-Week) Series to be executed in collaboration with its partners – Cold-Chain Development Association (CDA) and African Centre for Supply Chain (ACSC) – to convene all major participants in the Cold Supply Chain and Warehousing ecosystem to interact in order to showcase, discuss, analyse, proffer solutions, measure progress, and learn about the state of the industry in Nigeria, West Africa and Africa. The principal objective of this interaction is to encourage investments in physical and human capacity, development and application of suitable standards, and the adoption of legal and regulatory systems all aimed at creating a truly world-class supply system that satisfies the needs of all stakeholders. Significant contributors – individual, corporate and governmental – will also be recognised for their contributions to the progress made as a way to encourage others to emulate their progress.
“AfCFTA: Stimulating Cold Value Chain and Warehousing Investments for Cross-Border Trade,” the 2018 edition is designed to force all the players to begin pondering the impact of the imminent, second largest trading bloc of the world (after the World Trade Organisation) and to re-emphasise the importance of the appropriate enabling environment to attract the urgently needed investment is to improve the competitiveness of the Nigerian/ECOWAS economies and to integrate them into the African regional/global value chains.
