Webinar Recap: Challenges and opportunities for the West African economy in the face of COVID-19

africon CEO and Partner Marc-Peter Zander presented at the webinar « Challenges and opportunities for the West African economy in the face of COVID-19 » organised by the BVMW. Further presentations were held by Andreas Jahn, Head of Politics and Foreign Trade at the BVMW and Bienvenue Angui, Managing Director of the Africa SME Alliance.

Key topics revolved around how West African countries deal with the current pandemic, as well as a look at existing and emerging business opportunities.

As key take-aways, it is clear that West Africa faces a difficult situation with disrupted supply chains and GDP decreases. However, governments have taken initiatives to support businesses. In Nigeria the oil dependency displays a huge challenge, but the economy starts to diversify more which will create opportunities in other sectors.

Slide of the month (SOTM) July. The future of Africa’s independent automotive aftermarkets

africon recently presented at Messe Frankfurt Middle East: Automechanika Dubai’s webinar titled “Africa’s independent aftermarket (IAM) – a look at the current situation and future potential”.

In a webinar poll, they asked the 237 attendees from 65 countries if the African automotive aftermarkets will play an important role for their business in a post-COVID future. In total, more than 70% of the participants “strongly agreed” or “agreed”. The poll results show that there is indeed a significant interest in Africa. africon strongly believes in the African continent and with our role of bridging potentials, we are continuing to help reduce cost, risk and time for IAM companies.

The webinar is currently available on-demand for people to watch.
